The initial brief sought to retain the original steel framed single storey structure which was formerly a public house/nightclub and to extend this to provide a new 12,250sq. ft. mixed use commercial development. Located in the heart of Churchtown village, the new development comprises of 5 commercial units, including a medical centre, arranged around a new central courtyard.
The existing structure was stripped back to its original steel frame and subdivided into 5 new commercial units with a new frameless glass shopfront extending nearly 40m long and running the full length of the building. The original building footprint, including the unusual double pitched roof profile, was retained, reclad and incorporated into the new design. A new steel framed structure wraps around the rear of the original building to form a new private external courtyard on to which looks the new medical centre. This provides natural light and ventilation to all of the consultation rooms.
